Gubungarri Adventures is a proudly family-led business, grounded in culture and community.

At the heart of the experience is Deborah (Deb) Donation, a Traditional Owner of the land surrounding the Mt Barnett area and a respected Ngarinyin woman. Born in Derby and raised at the Old Mount Barnett Homestead, Deb’s life has been shaped by her strong cultural ties and commitment to her people. When schooling became available at Kupungarri Community, her family relocated so she could continue her education—an early reflection of the value placed on learning and opportunity.

Today, Deb is Chairperson of the Kupungarri Aboriginal Corporation, which manages the Mt Barnett pastoral lease and the Mount Barnett Roadhouse—places of deep cultural and historical significance to the Ngarinyin people. Alongside her leadership role, she has dedicated nearly 30 years to education, working to embed Ngarinyin culture into the curriculum at Wananami Remote Community School. Her contribution to Aboriginal education and community leadership has been recognised with a Public Service Medal.

Through Gubungarri Adventures, Deb shares her knowledge, stories, and connection to Country—creating meaningful cultural experiences that invite visitors to learn, respect, and connect.

Supporting Deb is her husband Dwayne Donation, who plays a key role behind the scenes, assisting with the coordination of tours and ensuring each experience runs smoothly.

Their son Jimeon, along with cousin Isayah, lead guests on the Kupungarri Cultural Walking Tours. As the next generation of cultural custodians, they bring energy, knowledge, and a deep respect for their heritage, guiding visitors through Country while sharing stories passed down through generations.

Together, the Donation family offers an authentic and welcoming experience—one that reflects their pride in culture, commitment to community, and passion for sharing the stories of their land.
